Salina Lakewood 7/8 Duals
After only 5 practices, our turnaround for the competition began at Salina Lakewood against both their middle school and Goddard Eisenhower on Thursday, October 31. On the Varsity side we won 10 of the 17 matches against Salina and 11 of 19 matches were won for the Hornets with a final score of 71-31. Oden Woodruff, Jace Manning, Colton Phillips, Barrett Baab, Enrique Helguera, Lyle Heck, Ever Morales, and Barry Mosqueda went undefeated on the night for Varsity matches. On the JV team we won a vast majority of matches and many had their first competition ever on the mat.

Goddard Middle School B Team Tournament
On Saturday November 2 the B team took to the mat in our first bracket style tournament. A total of 25 wrestlers competed in brackets of 8 or more wrestlers in double elimination. 9 wrestlers took home top 4 finishes including Cooper Hendershot 1st and Zaiden Cummings 4th at 75 pound weight class. Quentin Toll 2nd at 80 lbs, Gage Fortney 4th at 95 lbs, Hunter Birmingham 3rd at 100 lbs, Mattix Cotlar 3rd at 115 lbs, and Kadyn Maley 4th at 180 lbs. Two wrestlers took home 1st place finishes in Jaden Wilmas at 120 and Karson Spall at 155.

Derby Middle School 7/8 Duals
On Tuesday November 5 the entire team traveled to Derby Middle School to compete against both Derby and Salina South. JV matches also included competition against Maize. VC lost to Derby 48-57 as a team and ended with a win against Salina South 60-51. Lyle Heck, Ever Morales, and Barrett Baab went undefeated with wins in both duals. Every wrestler got a match and was able to learn from prior matches the week before. We are now approaching our longest stretch of practices before a home dual next Tuesday, 11/12, and then a home tournament next Saturday, 11/16. We will continue to build upon teachings in practice and will start adding new skills and techniques.
