The Valley Center Hornets defended their home court with a gritty 44–40 victory over the visiting Andale Indians in a tightly contested matchup.
The game opened as a defensive battle, with both teams struggling to find rhythm offensively. After one quarter of play, the score was knotted at 7–7. Andale briefly gained momentum in the second quarter, taking a four-point lead, but the Hornets responded with a strong closing run to head into halftime holding a narrow 20–18 advantage.
Valley Center continued to apply pressure in the second half, building a lead that grew to as much as nine points. Andale made a late push, but the Hornets stayed composed down the stretch to secure the hard-fought win.
Nash Jamolod led the Hornets in scoring with 14 points, while Preston Looney added 10. RayJ Logan contributed 7 points, and Rylan Bailey finished with 5. Valley Center’s defense was the difference, as the Hornets forced 28 turnovers and converted those into 20 points. The Hornets recorded 19 total steals on the night, led by RayJ Logan’s 6.
The win highlighted Valley Center’s defensive intensity and resilience in a close, physical contest.
The Hornets open up league play next week @ Maize South on Tuesday and home vs Salina South on Friday.
