The Valley Center Hornets hit the road Thursday night and came away with a strong 70–58 victory over the Winfield Vikings, using a dominant second-half surge to pull away.
Winfield kept the game close early, trailing just 31–28 at halftime after hanging tough through the opening two quarters. Coming out of the break, the Hornets’ offense erupted, outscoring the Vikings 29–14 in the decisive third quarter to seize control of the game. During that stretch, Valley Center built a lead that ballooned to as much as 25 points.
RayJ Logan led the charge, pouring in 17 of his game-high 24 points during the third-quarter explosion. Preston Looney added 12 points, while Evan Chavez contributed 14. Nash Jamolod finished with 9 points and made his presence felt on both ends of the floor with 7 steals and 4 assists.
The Vikings made a late push in the fourth quarter to close the gap, but the Hornets stayed in control and finished off the win. Valley Center’s defensive pressure proved to be the difference once again, as the Hornets forced 21 turnovers and converted them into 20 points, sealing the 70–58 road victory.
