This week was full of much Hornet pride both in sports and the celebration of Homecoming. JV and Varsity started the week on the road, Tuesday, to Derby High in a Tri against the Derby Panthers and Hutchinson Salthawks. We took care of business against Hutchinson in a 2-0 match. All of our players did a great job taking care of what we needed to in order to win this game. Our serve receive against Hutchinson was a 2.26 with the help of some leaders such as Scarlett Harrison (11) with a 2.63, Caris Claussen (10) with a 2.25, and Aly Sparman (11), Sophie Simmons (11), and Madalyn Lehr (10) tying with a 2.0 avg. Our hitting average was a .274 which was amazing to watch. Our leaders were Sophie Simmons (11) and Caris Claussen (10) hitting in the .700s.

Against Derby, we struggled to keep our confidence and execute as well. Though we beat them in a hard match at the Andover tournament in 3 sets, it was a hard loss this past Tuesday in a 2-0 loss. Grace Webber was our all-star in hitting this game with a .667 average helping keep our team average positive. Our team average for SR was a 2.10 which was great to see the consistency from the first match. Our struggle this game was simply lack of execution.

We ended this week with a home Tournament in Valley (Homecoming day!) with matches against, Campus, Buhler, Garden City, and Clearwater. We took care of business against Campus and fought hard in our last three games. With rotation changes, we found confidence in a lineup that will hopefully help us improve in finishing our games the way we know we can. We took the day with a 1-3 record, but learned a lot about our chemistry and grit that we hope to show this coming Tuesday at our home games against Derby and Salina South.
