After a tough loss to the Maize South Mavericks last week, the 7th grade Valley Center Hornets came back with a vengeance, shutting out the Derby Bulldogs 14-0. The game started with a bang as the Hornets took control right from their opening drive. Quarterback Hanley Barton connected with Colt Irvin for a touchdown pass, setting the tone for the game.
Defensively, the Hornets showed great resilience, thwarting the Bulldogs' attempts to score. With solid tackles and smart plays, the defense kept Derby from finding any rhythm.
After halftime, the Hornets wasted no time in re-establishing their momentum. Once again, Barton found success in the air, this time throwing a touchdown pass to Cooper Hendershot. The touchdown put the Hornets up 14-0, sealing the victory.
Looking ahead, the Hornets are gearing up for a challenging week as they prepare to face the Salina South Cougars and the Hutchinson Salthawks. With the momentum from the Derby win, the coaches and the players are focused on their upcoming games.
