VARSITY VOLLEYBALL HAS A BUSY START TO THE SEASON

Varsity Volleyball Has a Busy Start to the Season

The Hornet Volleyball Team kicked off the season by hosting a Jamboree, where they played Andale and McPherson. The night demonstrated that there were some definite areas for improvement, but the team showed promise with their ability to communicate, serve aggressively, and play solid defense.

The team then traveled to Hutchinson, where they participated in the AVCTL Preseason Tournament. The Hornets went 3-2 on the day, defeating Garden City, Buhler, and Emporia, while falling to Kapaun and Hutchinson in hard fought matches. The scores for the day are as follows:
Valley Center vs. Kapaun: 24-26, 20-25
Valley Center vs. Garden City: 27-25, 25-11
Valley Center vs. Hutchinson: 21-25, 25-14, 17-25
Valley Center vs. Buhler: 25-20, 16-25, 25-23
Valley Center vs. Emporia: 17-25, 25-12, 25-23

Leading performances from the day include the following:
Avery Davison's 2.16 SR rating
Avery Davison's 97.4 service percentage (37/38)
Taylor McDonald's 8 aces and 2.18 serve rating

The Hornets then took on Maize South at home, where they were unable to win a set, despite strong starts. The scores for each set are as follows:
Valley Center vs. Maize South: 21-25, 25-27, 21-25
Kailee Michaud shined during the match with a .625 hitting percentage, tying with Taylor McDonald and Anna Duncan for kills, all of who had 5 a piece. Taylor McDonald led the team in blocking with 5, while Ava Jacquez led the team in serve receive with a 1.83 SR rating.

The team's record currently sits at 3-3 on the season. As the season progresses, the team continues to strive for consistency and solid setter-hitter connections. The Varsity team's next playing date will be their home tournament on 9/14, where they will kick off the day by playing Bishop Carroll at 8am. Be sure to come out and support!
