Valley Center volleyball took on the Maize South Mavs Tuesday, September 3rd in a dual which involved a single game to best 3 out of 5. Due to only having one team to compete against, our volleyball girls got to experience the length of a longer match, much like a collegiate volleyball match would be.
JV Volleyball did a great job battling against the Mavs with a completely new line up due to some unforeseen injuries earlier these past couple weeks. We started the evening strong with a 2-0 lead and fought hard the third set with a 2 point difference loss for 2-1. Since it was a game of 3 out of 5, a fourth set was completed and lost ending us to fight once more in a fifth set to 15 points. VC lost by only 2 points but played hard throughout the entirety of the match.
The JV girls did great adjusting to new positions within our normal rotation and still worked to meet their team goals we set for ourselves at the beginning of our season. Some of our team highlights for the evening included:
Hitting % leaders- Cheyenne Lang (11) with a 0.283 and Daisy Schomaker (9) with a .143 playing in a new position as a MB rather than her normal OH from the jamboree.
SR leaders- Alyson Sparman (11) with 1.7 and Sophie Simmons (11) with a 2.0
Our scores for the evenings were:
Set 1: 25 - 11 (W)
Set 2: 25 - 22 (W)
Set 3: 26 - 28 (L)
Set 4: 18 -25 (L)
Set 5: 14 - 16 (L)
JV/V will both have a biweek this coming week and play in tournaments Saturday, September 14th.
