Valley Center Girls hosted Salina South in the opening round of Sub-State on Wednesday night. The game started off with both teams a little tight and struggling to score. But the Hornets went on a run behind good 3 point shooting by Avery Davison and Morgan Thatcher. Along with strong inside play by Taylee Tacner, Valley Center was able to open up a 7 point lead at halftime. In the 2nd half, the Hornet defense smothered the Cougar offense, causing several turnovers that led to layups and the girls were able to secure the 51-33 win.

Thatcher led the Hornets in scoring with 17 behind four 3 pointers. Anna Duncan and Tacner both added 10 points. Duncan also had 8 steals in the game. Avery Davison was also a major contributor with 8 assists and 7 points.

With the victory, Valley Center earned a trip to Maize South on Saturday to take on the Mavericks in the Sub-State Championship.
