Hornets Win on Senior Night

The Hornets had a great start to senior night against the visiting Salina Central. They used a strong defensive effort in the first half forcing 10 turnovers which led to some easy transition points for the Hornets. The Hornets took a 35-21 lead into halftime. The Hornets looked like they would extend the lead to start the third, but then Salina Central would make a 18-8 run to end the 3rd quarter to cut the Hornet lead to 50-45. The 4th quarter would be a battle as Salina would tie it up 56-56 with 3 minutes left. With 10 seconds left in the game and the score tied the Hornets would attempt to run a game winning play. However, a foul would put Bryson Saner to the line where he made a free throw to give the Hornets a one point lead. Then on the other end the Hornets would force a turnover to give them the ball back forcing Salina to foul. Colby Newton would make both free throws to give the Hornets a 3 point lead with 2 seconds remaining. Senior Hank Welu was able to secure the win by deflecting Salina’s full court pass as time expired.

The Hornets travel to Salina South on Tuesday and then Andover on Friday to closeout the regular season.
