The Valley Center girls advanced to the Championship game of the Haven Wildcat Classic with a 60-51 win over the Cheney Cardinals on Friday night. The Hornets opened up a 10 point lead in the 1st quarter but Cheney responded in the 2nd quarter to cut the lead to 4 by the half. Both teams were making shots and neither team could really take a clear advantage. The back and forth continued in the 3rd quarter with Cheney battling back to tie it by the start of the 4th. But then the Hornet defense tightened up, only allowing 3 points in the period while the offense managed to build the lead back up to 9 by the final buzzer. Valley Center was led by Taylor McDonald with 19 points and Avery Davison with 15. The girls have improved their record to 8-3 and will play in the Championship game Saturday afternoon at 3:30.
