Wednesday vs Newton

The Hornets jumped out to a 9-0 lead to start the game. Newton would rally back to take an 11-9 lead. The Hornets responded with another run to take a 15 point lead into halftime and never looked back, winning by a final 71-53. Colby Newton led the Hornets with 20 points going 7 of 9 from the field including 4 of 6 from the 3 point line. Hank Welu was the next leading scorer with 16 points going with perfect 6 of 6 from the FT line. Austin Saner had 14 points on 6 of 8 shooting. Bryson Saner led on the boards with 9 rebounds.

Pool Play Game 2
Friday vs Blue Valley West

The Hornets took on one of the top teams from 6A North in their second game of pool play. The Hornets battled in the first quarter, and were only down by single digits going into the second quarter. Blue Valley would go on a run to take a 33-17 lead into halftime. Blue Valley would come out strong in the 2nd half going on a 13-0 run and the Hornets quickly found themselves down 46-17 halfway through the 3rd quarter. The Hornets responded on a 12-0 run to end the quarter to cut lead to 46-29 but that is the closest they would get before losing 59-37. Austin Saner led the Hornets in scoring with 14 points including going a perfect 4/4 from the 3pt line. Colby Newton and Preston Looney each chipped in 6 points each. Bryson Saner grabbed 8 rebounds to lead the team on the boards.

Third Place Game
Saturday vs Shawnee Mission East

In the 3rd place game the Hornets would again face a top team from 6A in Shawnee Mission East. The Hornets traded baskets early with Shawnee Mission and were trailing only 12-10 after the first quarter. The Lancers would go on a run and score 37 points in the second quarter to take a 49-22 lead at the half. The Hornets could never recover and would lose by a score of 71 - 40. Colby Newton and Corben Burgess would lead the Hornets with 11 and 10 points respectively. Bryson Saner chipped in 7 points as well to round out the top scorers of the game.
