The Valley Center Hornet Wrestling Team competed in the 61st Annual Newton Tournament of Champions on Friday and Saturday placing 7 individual wrestlers including 1 champion. Aiden Shields defeated returning 5A State Champion Lucas Kaufman in the finals match on Saturday night to claim the championship. Dai'Mont Mucker also made the finals, but came up short in the final seconds against #1 ranked Ronan Wunch from Maize High. As a team the Hornets finished in 5th place out of 34 very tough teams and the highest of the 5A schools competing in this tournament. Below are the 7 placers.
