In a week highlighted by snow and cold weather, the Hornets were able to play both of their scheduled games. However, their game against rival Maize South was postponed until Wednesday due to icy conditions on Tuesday. Valley Center battled the #6 ranked Mavericks, holding them to their lowest point total of the season and 25 points below their season average. However, the Hornet's offense never really got going and struggled to score. After being down by 11 midway through the 4th quarter, the girls fought back to cut it to 4. Maize South responded with a 14 to 2 run and secure the 35-19 victory. Morgan Thatcher led the Hornets with 7 points.

On Friday night, the girls traveled to Salina Central to take on the Mustangs. Valley Center jumped out to an early lead and carried a 6 point advantage into half. The 2nd half saw the Hornets open up a 16 point lead. However, the Mustangs battled back to cut it down to single digits but Valley Center made their free throws down the stretch to earn the win. But the real story was the Hornet defense. They held the Mustangs to 23 points and 22% shooting. Morgan Thatcher led the way again with 11 points and 5 rebounds. Taylor McDonald added 8 points and 8 rebounds. Avery Davison contributed 7 assists, along with some clutch ball handling down the stretch.

The Hornets are 6-3 heading into their Mid-season tournament. The Wildcat Classic, in Haven, begins Thursday, January 25.
