The Hornets were able to keep the game close for most of the first half against the top ranked Maize South. After being down 14-6 at the end of the first quarter, the Hornets were able to cut the lead to 18-12 midway through the 2nd quarter. Maize South though would go on a 15 - 3 run to end the first half to take a 35-18 lead at halftime. Despite their great effort on the defensive end the Hornets struggled to score the ball against Maize South aggressive defense in the second half. The Hornets ended up losing by a final of 57-34. Doc Needham and Austin Saner led the Hornets in scoring with 11 points each. Bryson Saner led the Hornets on the boards grabbing 7 rebounds. The Hornets next game will be Friday, January 12 when they travel to Salina Central.
