The Hornets started the game trading baskets early with the visiting Redhawks. Eventually they would start to pull away to take a 15-8 lead at the end of the 1st quarter. They used their full court defensive pressure to cause some turnovers and help the Hornets start to extend their lead in the second quarter out scoring the Redskins 22-6 to take a 37-14 lead at halftime. The Hornets would outscore the Redskins 28-15 in the second half to win their first game of the season 65-29.

Doc Needham had 5 points and found his teammates early and often for scoring opportunities to get a school single game record 12 assists. Austin Saner led the Hornets in scoring with 17 points and 5 steals. Hank Welu also added 12 points. Colby Newton, Bryson Saner, and Preston Looney each had 9 points. Ray J Logan chipped in 4 points as well.
