The Valley Center Hornets defeated the Andover Central Jaguars, 18-6, for the Suburban League DII Championship.

The Hornets got off to a strong start, finishing the first quarter with a 3-0 lead. Rachel Garten's early basket in the second quarter extended their lead to 5 points. However, the Jaguars responded with four consecutive points, including a crucial 3-pointer in transition, narrowing the halftime score to 5-4. Both teams showcased impressive defensive efforts, with Andover Central employing an aggressive 2-3 defense to counter the Hornets' inside play, while Valley Center opted for a man-to-man defense. The halftime break highlighted the defensive battle, with turnovers creating a low-scoring affair. The third quarter saw a pivotal turning point for the Hornets. The scoring started after a loose ball scramble in the Hornet front court where Raegan McDonald found Avery Williams for a long 2-point shot from the right wing. The Hornets transitioned to a 1-3-1 defense, confusing the Jaguar offense. Avery Williams would steal a pass and dribble the length of the court and miss a contested layup, but Rachel Garten would grab the offensive rebound and score the put back. Williams would have 8 steals in the game. The following possession, Julia Ensey would get a steal off a baseline out of bounds under the Jaguar basket and dribble between two Jaguar defenders for the score. During the 3rd quarter, the Hornets would score 11 straight points to start the 2nd half to make the score 16-4. The Jaguars would hit a bucket late in the third to make the score 16-6 going into the fourth quarter. The Hornets would score the final points early in the final quarter. The Hornets rebounded the ball better in the 2nd half with Makayla L'Ecuyer and Avery Williams leading the team with 5 rebounds each. Coach Jared Ensey said, "I am very proud of this group of young women. The entire season they have proven to be tough competitors. Their team defense has been a key factor for us this year. Teams were only scoring about 15 ppg on us for the season, and to hold a team to six points in the championship game demonstrates the pride they take on the defensive end. They are an extremely coachable group and I am looking forward to seeing them continue playing basketball in high school." Scoring for the Hornets: Rachel Garten 11 points, Raegan McDonald 3 points, Julia Ensey 2 points, Avery Williams 2 points.
