Valley Center Hornets Dominate Newton Railers in Impressive 36-11 Victory
The Hornets set the tone early in the game, establishing a commanding lead with a score of 10-2 by the end of the first quarter. Their tenacious defense and strategic offense laid the foundation for a dominant performance. As the game progressed during the 2nd quarter, the Hornets continued to build on their lead, heading into the break with a commanding 18-4 advantage. The Railers struggled to find answers to the Hornets' relentless pressure on both ends of the court. One key factor in Valley Center's success was their dominance on the boards. The Hornets outrebounded the Railers 33-14. Standout performances came from Rachel Garten and Raegan McDonald, each contributing 8 rebounds to the team's impressive tally. The Hornets' defensive prowess was on full display as they forced an astounding 28 turnovers, with an impressive 21 steals. Rachel Garten led the charge with 6 steals, closely followed by Avery Williams with 4. The Railers struggled to maintain ball control against the relentless pressure applied by Valley Center. Valley Center showcased not only their defensive strength but also their discipline on offense. With only 11 turnovers in the entire game, the Hornets maintained control of the ball and limited their own mistakes. Avery Williams led the team with 5 assists. The scoring load was evenly distributed among the Hornets' players, with Raegan McDonald leading the way with 12 points, closely followed by Rachel Garten with 10. Others scoring: Julia Ensey 4, Miley Dalrymple 4, Avery Williams 2, Mallory Ferguson 2, and Makayla L'Ecuyer 2.

The Valley Center Hornets Girls 8th grade B team won vs Newton 33-16. The girls came out and played really well but our shots weren't falling in the 1st half. Due to our shots not falling, the team went into halftime down 1 point to Newton. The girls came out after halftime and our shots started falling. The team scored 27 points in the 2nd half and Newton just wasn't able to answer our scoring runs. Coach Corey Carter said, “I was proud of the girls execution on offense and our baseline out of bounds plays as we were able to get great looks and knock them down. I was extremely proud of how the girls looked for each other and the passing was much better than the beginning of the season!” The leading scorers for the Hornets were: Miley Dalrymple 9, Emily Reffner 8, Katrina Dixon 7, Lauren Woolsoncroft 4, Gracie Sharon 3, Anna Stratton 1, Adrian Meith-Overtown 1.

7A lost a heartbreaker to Newton 1 Monday night. We were tied at 4 at the end of the first quarter. We did a great job getting the ball inside and drawing fouls in the second quarter, going to the free throw line 4 times. Tylee Coleman played excellent defense, and Kinsley Johnston went 3/4 from the line. We went into the half up 12-6. Newton fought back in the 3rd, and we struggled to score. We went into the 4th quarter tied at 15. Down by one with 7 seconds left, we ran a play to feed into the post but couldn't connect. We lost 17-18. Jerzie Shultz led the team with 10 points. Kelsey Friend added 4, and Kinsley Johnston had 3.

The Valley Center 7th-grade girls B team came away with a resounding 35-7 win over Newton. The team showcased great offensive skill, scoring 25 points in the second half alone. Brihli Sims led the scoring effort with 11 points, while Nadya Bogle and Ella Holt added 8 and 6 points, respectively. Defensively, Carsyn Chapman stood out with her pressure, creating multiple opportunities for steals and turnovers. Meanwhile, Tymlee Alcorn-Mosher and Brihli Kempf were a force to be reckoned with as they protected the lane and dominated the boards. Coach Denise Newfer was pleased with their performance and praised their hard work and dedication. “They played with confidence and teamwork, and it was a pleasure to watch them execute their game plan so effectively.”
