The Valley Center Hornets 8th Grade B team lost to Maize South 24-12. Maize South played pressure man to man and I felt that the team improved greatly against man defense. The team was much more confident with the ball when being pressured and I was happy to see their growth. Maize South just made some of their shots toward the end of the game and we weren't able to mount a comeback. Overall, I was pleased with the growth but there is still more room for improvement. The leading scorers for the Hornets were: Emily Refner 6, Lauren Woolsoncroft 2, Miley Dalrymple 2, Katrina Dixon 1, and Gracie Sharon 1,

VCMS 7A lost to a tough Maize South team 4-55. We were intimidated, and it showed. We are typically pretty scrappy and persistent, but I wasn't seeing a lot of that in the first half of the game. The halftime score was 0-41. We had a much better second half; we scored 4 and held them to 14. Morgan Fowler and Jerzie Shultz each scored 2.

Maize South defeated the Hornets, 43-6. In a tough game against a talented Maize South team, the Hornets struggled to execute their offense. Despite Nadya Bogle, Ella Holt, and Bri Kessler each scoring 2 points, turnovers played a major role in Maize South's ability to score. Additionally, the Hornets faced a consistent disadvantage on the defensive end, being out-rebounded throughout the game. Despite the tough loss, the Hornets are determined to learn from their mistakes and come back stronger in their next game. Practice will emphasize the importance of ball handling and rebounding skills during practice this week. With hard work and dedication, the Hornets are confident that they can bounce back and finish the season on a high note.
