In a matchup between the Valley Center Hornets and the Maize Eagles, the Hornets emerged victorious with a final score of 20-12. The first quarter set the tone for the game, with the Hornets taking an early lead of 2-0. The defensive efforts were evident from the start, creating a low-scoring but highly competitive opening period. As the game progressed to halftime, the Hornets extended their lead to 10-4. Both teams displayed resilience on defense, but Valley Center managed to capitalize on scoring opportunities to secure a six-point advantage. Defensively, Avery Williams of the Hornets was a standout player, showcasing her skills with an impressive 5 steals. Her contribution on the defensive end played a crucial role in limiting the Eagles' offensive opportunities. Mallory Ferguson and Raegan McDonald led the way with 5 points each. Makayla L'Ecuyer and Rachel Garten contributed 4 points each, while Avery Williams added 2 points to the team's total. The Hornets' balanced scoring attack, coupled with their strong defensive efforts, proved to be the winning formula against a resilient Maize Eagles team.

The Valley Center 8th Grade B team lost to Maize Thursday night 28-5. Maize came out and played tough in your face man to man defense and we didn't handle it well. We were able to adjust in the 2nd half but none of our shots were falling tonight. This is one of those games we need to learn from and continue to get better each day. The leading scorers for the game were: Emily Refner 3, Ana Sandoval 2.

7A lost to Maize 8-40. Maize made three 3s and jumped to a 17-0 lead in the first quarter. We adjusted well, holding them to only 2 more the rest of the game. We also made huge improvements in rebounding and didn't allow Maize many second chances. Offensively, we did a good job getting the ball inside. We took a lot of good shots, but couldn't get them to fall. Once again, despite the score, this team played with intensity until the final buzzer. Jerzie Shultz led the team with 4; Kinsley Johnston added 2, and Kenzie Truman and Bri Kessler each added one.

The Hornets fought a hard battle against the Eagles in their latest game, but unfortunately lost with a score of 38-10. While the Hornets initially kept up with the Eagles, turnovers caused a loss of momentum. The team received a boost when Nadya Bogle came off the bench and scored two quick baskets, but they were unable to establish a rhythm on offense. Despite a strong defensive performance in the second half, following a weak first half, the Hornets were unable to capitalize. Moving forward, the team is focused on improving their inside ball game and scoring opportunities.
