In a thrilling matchup, the Valley Center Hornets emerged victorious over the Andover Central Jaguars with a final score of 23-19. The game was a rollercoaster of momentum swings, showcasing the determination and resilience of both teams. The first quarter saw a close battle, with the Jaguars taking an early lead at 9-6. The Hornets, however, could only keep pace with as the Jaguars held onto a three point lead going into halftime with the score, Jaguars 15, Hornets 12. The pivotal moment of the game came in the third quarter when the Hornets' defense stepped up, holding the Jaguars scoreless. This defensive effort proved to be a game-changer, allowing the Hornets to take control of the game. The Jaguars only managed four points in the second half. Player highlights included Rachel Garten's outstanding performance with 7 steals, showcasing her defensive prowess. Raegan McDonald contributed significantly with 7 rebounds, playing a crucial role in controlling the boards. The scoring distribution for the Hornets was well-balanced. Raegan McDonald led the offensive charge with 8 points, while Rachel Garten added 7 points to the scoreboard. Mallory Ferguson and Makayla L'Ecuyer also made valuable contributions with 6 and 2 points, respectively.

The Valley Center Hornets B team beat Andover Central Monday night 25-13. Coach Corey Carter commented, “I was extremely proud of the girls tonight. The girls came out and didn’t play well in the first half and went into halftime down 10-6. The girls were just missing shots and it affected our defense. Coming out of the half, the girls played very well on defense and we were able to get out in transition to put the game away. The girls handled adversity tonight and kept growing as a team!” Leading scorers were: Miley Dalrymple 7, Katrina Dixon 5, Anna Stratton 5, Whitney Haight 4, Sam Anderson 2, Emily Reffner 2.

In a challenging contest, the 7A team faced a setback, falling to Andover Central with a final score of 26-11. The game highlighted areas for improvement, with the team acknowledging the need for enhanced defensive intensity and focus. The struggle to maintain defensive composure impacted the overall performance. Despite the collective challenges faced by the team, individual efforts shone through. Jerzie Shultz emerged as a standout performer, showcasing her scoring ability with an impressive 9 points. Tylee Coleman contributed to the offensive effort with 4 points.

The Hornets' victory against Andover Central showcased the team's progress in several key areas. The Hornets secured a tight 13-12 victory, demonstrating their ability to remain focused and play tough defense when it mattered in the final seconds as Andover had 2 out of bounds plays on their half of the court. Kelsey Friend led the scoring with 5 points, which was instrumental in the team's success. Briley Kempf was also a key contributor with 4 points, proving that the Hornets have multiple players who can make a difference on offense. Rebounding was a significant area of improvement for the team. After struggling in this department during the weekend tournament, the Hornets dominated the offensive boards against Andover Central. This allowed them to create more scoring opportunities and control the game's pace. Nevertheless, the team must still work on finishing around the basket. Overall, the Hornets' performance against Andover Central was a positive step in the right direction. The team demonstrated that they can stand up to difficult opponents and that they are making progress in various aspects of the game.
