On 9/28 the team went 2-0, taking down Goddard and Cheney (a strong volleyball team who was previously on a 17 game winning streak). On the night the Hornets struggled with serving consistency, but passed well as a team, securing a 1.94 serve receive rating. Most impressive was the team's aggressive swinging and blocking (led by sophomore Taylor McDonald), which allowed the team to protect their home court and clutch both victories in 2 sets. Stat leaders for the matches include Avery Looney's 5 aces, 2.24 serve rating, and 25 assists, Teagan Canady's perfect serving percentage, Malia Smith's 2.11 serve receive rating and 25 digs, and Taylor McDonald's +.484 hitting percentage, 15 kills, and 6 blocks.

On 10/3 the team went 1-1 on the night, securing a dominant win over Salina Central, but falling short to Andover in 3 sets. The Hornets had a stellar passing and serving performance, passing a 2.15 and serving a 97.4% as a team. Additionally, the team pushed points in the middle of the second set to win, overcoming a 9 point, 11-20, deficit. Stat leaders on the night include Natalie Webb's perfect serving percentage, 4 aces, and 2.42 serve rating, Avery Looney's 5 aces and 28 assists, Ava Jacquez's 2.43 serve receive rating, Anna Duncan's +.296 hitting percentage, Taylor McDonald's 20 kills and 6 blocks, and Malia Smith's 17 digs.

This past Tuesday was also senior night, where the team got to celebrate its 5 senior players, #9 Abby Anderson, #8 Kaylee Kinsinger, #13 Avery Looney, #4 Malia Smith, and #1 Natalie Webb, as well as its 3 senior managers, Reese Bieker, Musa Fuica, and Macee Lehr (pictured above with coaches Kaitlin Unrau and Janeigh Dantzson).

This week's player of the weeks was Natalie Webb, who was nominated by her teammates for her great attitude, eagerness to improve, her ability to set goals for herself, and her effort and hard work. Congrats Natalie!

The Varsity Team's next playing date will be this Saturday (10/7) at the El Dorado tournament, where the Hornets will take on El Dorado at 9am, Buhler at 11am, and Ark City at 2:20pm (approximately).
