The Valley Center High School Varsity Volleyball Team went 2-0 on Tuesday night at their home opener against Goddard and Eisenhower. The Hornets are now 6-3 on the season.

Scores are as follows:
Valley Center vs. Goddard: 25-18, 25-21 (W)
Valley Center vs. Eisenhower: 25-17, 19-25, 26-24 (W)

Against Goddard the Hornets passed well with a 1.94 serve receive rating on the match, but struggled serving, accumulating 10 total errors. Kailee Abasolo (So.) had a stand out match, with a +0.308 hitting percentage, leading the team with 6 total kills. The Hornets struggled passing against Eisenhower, but persevered as a team with good serving, a positive hitting percentage, and scrappy defensive plays to pull out the win in the third set. The Hornets played aggressively throughout the whole match with 4 different hitters getting 5 or more kills. Anna Duncan (Jr.) lead in hitting percentage (+.500), while Teagan Canady (Jr.) and Taylor McDonald (So.) led in kills with 7 a piece.

Avery Looney (Sr.) emerged as our team's player of the week, 8/28 - 9/5. Avery was nominated by her teammates who felt that she demonstrated the team's GROWTH motto through her encouragement, great defense, hustle, and positivity.

The team has been working extremely hard this season and this past week was no exception, with the girls getting in additional reps at our morning serve and pass practice on Thursday. Each week the players grow in new ways and rise to the challenge of improving in weaker areas, trying out new volleyball skills, and becoming leaders on the court. The Hornets will host 8 other teams this weekend (Saturday, 9/9) for their home tournament. Varsity will take on Bishop Carroll at 8am to kick off their day and will take on Wichita East after sitting for a game, so be sure to come out and support!
