Varsity Volleyball Shows Promise at the Start of the Season

The Valley Center varsity volleyball team showed a lot of promise in their first week of playing dates, going 3-2 in the AVCTL preseason tournament in McPherson (8/26) and going 1-1 in their Tri at Andover Central (8/31). The Hornets currently hold a winning record and are 4-3 on the season.

Scores are as follows:
Valley Center vs. McPherson: 26-28, 23-25 (L)
Valley Center vs. Goddard: 29-27, 25-8 (W)
Valley Center vs. Campus: 25-9, 25-15 (W)
Valley Center vs. Derby: 25-21, 25-20 (W)
Valley Center vs. Andover: 23-25, 17-25 (L)

Valley Center vs. Andover Central: 15-25, 21-25 (L)
Valley Center vs. Wichita Heights: 25-15, 25-19 (W)

Ava Jacquez currently leads the team in serving percentage with a 93.5% and serve receive rating of a 1.90. Taylor McDonald leads the team in blocking with 18 total blocks and in hitting percentage with a +0.355, although she is tied with outside hitter Teagan Canady for kills with each player having 35 a piece so far this season. Senior setter and co-captain Avery Looney leads the team with 62 total assists and 9 aces, while senior libero and co-captain Malia Smith leads the team in digs with a total of 59.

The Varsity Team will have its next playing date on Tuesday, September 5th at home. Come support your Hornets as they take on Goddard at 5pm and Eisenhower at 7pm.
