VALLEY CENTER-- The Valley Center Hornets boys varsity lost to the Goddard Lions 64-55 in league play Tuesday night. The Lions used a 9-0 run to start the 4th quarter to change momentum in a game where the hornets led most of the way.  The Hornets were led by Sam Kemp with 19 points.  Eli Lefto had 14 and Max Preheim had 7.  The Hornets drop to 2-4 on the season and play after break at Ark City January 6.

The Hornets started strong leading 30-16 at halftime. Goddard made their way back, cutting the lead to 46-38 at the end of the 3rd, and eventually winning the game 59-53

The Hornets were led in scoring by Doc Needham with 18. Colby Newton had 10 points and Tyler Manske had 9 points.

Freshmen

The Hornets fell down early, trailing 8-3 after one and 27-11 at the half. The Hornets battled back though, scoring 20 in the third to cut the lead to 6, 37-31. After a hard fought fourth quarter, the Hornets had a chance to win at the buzzer, but fell 49-47. Connor Thatcher and Nash Jamolod led VC with 11 points apiece, while Brady Haight added 9.
