VALLEY CENTER– The Valley Center varsity boys team won a wild overtime game against Topeka High Saturday night 75-73. At times during the game the Hornets were down 7 (halftime), down 7 with 1:23 left in regulation, and down 1 in OT with 10 seconds left and still found a way to win. The Hornets were led by Sam Kemp with 24 points. Austin Saner had 15 points, Max Preheim had 13 points including the game-winning 3 pointer in overtime, and Colby Newton had 10 points which included a huge 3-pointer to send the game to overtime. The Hornets are 1-0 and will play at Andale Friday.

Topeka jumped out to an early 17-7 lead lead in the first quarter. They then extended the lead to 35-18 at the half. VC cut the lead to 13 at one point in the 2nd half, but was not able to get any closer before falling 60-42.
Freshmen Game
The Valley Center freshmen opened their season against Topeka High. The Hornets started hot, leading 14-10 after the first quarter. Topeka stormed back to take a one point lead at the half, 23-22. After a back-and-forth second half, the Hornets fought hard but came up just short, falling 35-32. Leading the way for VC was Brady Haight, who scored 8 points. Nash Jamolod notched 7 points, and Dustin Cochran followed with 6.
