The Valley Center Hornets traveled to Newton on Tuesday night and delivered a great defensive effort, rolling to a 55–28 victory behind a barrage of early threes and relentless defensive pressure.
Valley Center came out scorching from beyond the arc, knocking down six 3-pointers in the opening quarter to take control with a 23–15 lead. Once the offense set the tone, the defense took over. The Hornets cranked up their intensity over the final three quarters, holding Newton to just 13 points the rest of the way. Their defensive pressure wreaked havoc throughout the night as they forced 23 turnovers and collected 12 team steals.
Offensively, the Hornets showcased balanced scoring, led by Evan Chavez with 13 points, along with 7 rebounds, 2 steals, and 2 blocks. RayJ Logan followed closely with 12 points, adding 2 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals.
Rylan Bailey anchored the interior with a monster night on the glass, grabbing 10 rebounds while contributing 8 points, 4 steals, and taking his 3rd charge of the season. Nash Jamolod kept the offense flowing with 5 assists, 8 points, and 2 steals. Preston Looney added another strong all-around performance with 8 points, 2 assists, and 2 rebounds.
Off the bench, Koko Nyimbo provided valuable minutes with 4 points, 1 rebound, 1 assist, and 1 block, while Brayden McCaffree chipped in 2 points, 1 assist, and 1 steal.
With the win, the Hornets continue to build momentum as they prepare for another road test Thursday night against Winfield before hosting Andale on Friday.
