The Valley Center Hornets kicked off their season with a hard-earned victory over the visiting Wichita East Blue Aces, holding on for a one-point win in their home opener. Valley Center came out fast, starting the night on an 8–0 run as their zone defense immediately frustrated East. The Hornets’ defensive pressure set the tone, forcing 20 turnovers across the game.
Valley Center controlled the opening half, leading 13–4 after one quarter and 22–13 at halftime. In the third quarter, the Hornets pushed their lead to as many as 15 points before East responded with a flurry of contested three-pointers to close the gap heading into the fourth.
The Blue Aces continued to push late, but the Hornets sank key free throws in the closing moments to secure the narrow victory.

Valley Center now prepares for a busy three-game week with matchups at Newton on Tuesday, at Winfield on Thursday, and a home game against Andale on Friday.
