JV LEAGUE - FINAL CHAPTER

JV League - Final Chapter

MARISA SHOOK

JV - Coach Rod | 10/20/2025

On Saturday, October 18th, our VCVB - JV girls competed in the last tournament of the season with our league opponents at Maize South High School (a wonderfully efficient tournament, thank you Maize South).

During our pool play, we were placed with the McPherson Bullpups, Maize South Mavericks, and the Salina South Cougars.

Our morning started out slow for our Hornets versus the Bullpups but we worked on trying to find spots against their hitters and defend their hard swings as best we could. Overall, our SR struggled to push out of our rotations with an average from the team of a 1.38. Daisy Schomaker (10th) lead with the most attempts in hitting for a .231 average. McPherson has been a very consistent competitor throughout the season and we are grateful to have been given the challenge during league.

Against Maize South Mavericks, we competed against them on Tuesday during their senior night in 3 sets but just struggled to minimized our errors and keep swinging aggressively against them during the tournament. We increased our SR average to a 1.48 against the Mavericks but it was still too low to allow for our side to take care of business the way we needed to. Adalynn Menefee (9th) passed a 2.22 this match, aiding our overall stats to a higher average. Daisy Schomaker (10th) lead again with the highest hitting % of .250 for overall attempts and Anne Hess (9th) hit a .333 with her 1 kill out of three!

Our last pool match was against the Salina South Cougars for a 2-set win. With more of our young ladies hitting positive against the cougars and passing better to help assist us in our lead. Kenna Holmes (9th) had the highest hitting % this match with 2/3 of her attempts being kills for a .667 average. Daisy Schomaker (10th) still lead in percentage per attempts for a positive average of .167 out of 24 attempts. Our block attempts by our middles Josey Seymour (9th) and Rachel Garten (10th) really helped us in setting up defensively against the cougars this match as well. Both of our setters (Mackenze Bahl - 9th and Taelyn Holmes - 9th) were hustling and making smart assist choices this match as well.

Our consolation match was against the 3rd place team from pool B so the Hornets competed for the 3rd and final time, second time this week, against the Campus Colts. We have consistently competed against the Colts in 3-sets and we did so again Saturday for a fight to the finish for the win. We averaged a 1.56 SR against the Colts and kept a positive hitting % with a .065 as a team. Josey Seymour (9th) had a .500 with Mallory Ferguson (10th) coming in second with a .250 and Anne Hess (9th) following right behind her with a .200 percentage. Rachel Garten (10th) helped push us against the Colts for the win the last point of the first set to set the tone of our match. We read well as a team on their attempts to get kills in our weak spots and adjust to push back against them the 3rd set for the win.

Overall, a reflective season with so much learned by the girls and by myself, Coach Rod. It has been such a joy coaching a young team this year and an even greater challenge that I looked forward to taking on each day. Thank you to all our VCVB staff, ADs, referees and parents for your support this season in pushing our girls to be the best athletes and students they could be. THANK YOU!!

For the last time,
Coach Rod
