Ready, set, go!

The JV volleyball squad is off to the races after having our first league games yesterday, September 2nd at Maize South High School (MSHS) versus Halstead and MSHS. After having a busy week the week prior with our Jamboree at home with McPherson and Eisenhower and our Purple/White scrimmage, there was a lot to be learned by our young squad but they have been enjoyable to watch thus far.

Our first match was against Halstead yesterday evening with learning to be had for this young team. We averaged a 1.26 overall as a team for serve receive and a .120 hitting average as a team. We have been working hard on consistency this week with serves and that was something that showed during our games yesterday. Our libero, Freshman- Adalynn Menefee (#34), Sophomore - Daisy Schomaker (#7), and Sophomore - Paige Gibbs (#11) all had a 100% serving rate during our match.

Against MSHS, we really brought the aggression and competition when it came to playing hard and working to focus on Serve Receive (SR), control in our platforms and purpose with our swings. We brought our SR average up to a 1.675 which was close to our goal of 1.7. We continued to keep consistent with our serving goal and met our goal of >85% for the match. Defensively we began to get more confident in getting hands on our blocks and not being afraid of the floor.

The JV team will move into a bi-week next week and will utilize this long break from games to really hone in on our skills and situational execution to prepare for our Conway Springs tournament on September 13th.

Our squad consists of 12 girls this year between 9th - 11th grade with two returners, Daisy Schomaker (10) and Makayla L'Ecuyer (10). Makayla had a serious injury at the beginning of our season that unfortunately will not allow her play her sophomore season but we are grateful to have her as a "secondary" coach and supporter on our bench as she continues to heal and be ready to come back stronger than ever for her junior season.
Players from bottom left and snaking up to top right are as follows:
