Valley Center Softball 2025 Preview

BRENT WELCH

Valley Center Athletics | 3/13/2025

The Hornet softball team is eager to get the season started! They have been preparing their mindsets and skills to be successful since day one. Something new we started this year is mental performance coach, Brian Cain's, MVP process. This process helps to establish a culture rooted in a shared (M)ission, (V)ision and core (P)rinciples. This is something we want to be at the foundation of everything we do - on the field and in life. The team is really looking forward to applying this system throughout our season and seeing where it takes us!

Seniors Grace Greenwood and Chaylyn Boone have been excellent leaders for the team - setting the tone, being encouraging, and mentoring on a daily basis. A few other stand out leaders are juniors Avery Davison and Abreya Perry. They have been great vocal leaders and helped to make everyone feel comfortable and accepted. The varsity team, coached by coach Ortiz and coach Card, will have a solid defense with returning infielders Kailee Michaud at 1st base, Avery Davison at shortstop, and Chaylyn Boone at 3rd base. We also have 2 returning pitchers, Kailee Abasolo and Emily Freeby as well as returning catcher, Grace Greenwood. Texas A&M commit, Abreya Perry, will be returning in center field with other upperclassmen, Scarlett Harrison in left field and Sydney Riffel in right field. Some newcomers to lookout for this season are freshman catcher, Katelyn Foster, and pitcher/outfielder, Emily Reffner. Our JV team, coached by coach Wilson and coach Colby, is looking to have some great success with some returning members and talented freshman/new additions. Overall, we have a great foundation to work up from, a great staff, and a good balance of striving for excellence while having fun! It's going to be a great season!
