Hornet Powerlifting: A Repeat State Champ and a State Record Lift

Hornet powerlifters competed at the 5A State Meet in Pittsburg over the weekend, with the men's team winning 8th place with only ten lifters. One Hornet captured a second straight state championship while another hoisted a state record lift.

Beau Young (JR) won the Men's Power Division with a three-lift total of 1, 190 lbs. Young was 1st place in bench press (335 lbs) and clean (335 lbs). He finished 2nd place in squat (520 lbs). It was Young's second year in a row winning the Men's Power Division at the state meet.

Roman Gage (JR) and Ethan Dillman (SR) competed alongside Young in the Men's Power Division. Gage finished 4th overall with a three-lift total of 1,040 lbs. He finished 4th place in squat (480 lbs.), 6th place in bench press (285 lbs), and 7th place in clean (275 lbs). Dillman joined Young and Gage with a top 10 finish in squat, placing 8th place (425 lbs).

Walker Vanderweide lifted a state record 350 lbs. clean in the Men's 198 lbs. Division. He narrowly missed 365 lbs on a successive attempt. Vanderweide finished 6th overall in division with a three-lift total of 960 lbs. Jakob Bryant (SO), Holden Morris (SR), and Ian Poole (SR) also performed admirably in the Men's 198 lbs. division.

Damien Ele (SR) finished 3rd overall in the Men's 114 lbs Division with a three-lift total of 445 lbs. Ele finished 3rd place in bench (125 lbs), 3rd place in clean (135 lbs), and 4th in squat (185 lbs). Tanner Johnson (SR), an adaptive athlete, competed alongside Ele in the Men's 114 lbs Division.

Miles Massaglia competed in the Men's 220 lbs division.
