12 Hornet Football Players Awarded AVCTL II All League Honors

Twelve Hornets earned AVCTL II all league honors, two of which were recognized all leaguers for two positions.

For the second year in a row Trey Heitsman (SR) was a unanimous 1st team selection as an interior defensive lineman. Heitsman recorded 50 tackles (16 solos, 35 assists) 12 tackles for loss, 2 quarterback hurries and 1 deflected pass. Fellow senior Rock Schomaker was also recognized for all league honors for the second year in a row, this time climbing from a 2nd team defensive back in 2022 to a 1st team defensive back in 2023. Rock made 70 tackles (28 solos, 42 assists) 6 tackles for loss, 1 interception, 1 pass break up and 1 fumble recovery. Walker Vanderweide (JR) was selected 1st team linebacker. Vanderweide led the Hornets with 82 tackles (24 solos, 58 assists). He added 8.5 tackles for loss, 1 sack, 1 quarterback hurry and 1 forced fumble. CJ Gonzalez (JR) landed 1st team honors as a kicker and 2nd team honors as a punter. As a kicker, Gonzalez was a perfect 26 for 26 on point after attempts, was 4 of 6 on field goals attempts with a long of 40 yards, kicked 8 touchbacks and made 2 touchdown saving tackles. As a punter, Gonzalez averaged 35.1 yards per punt with a long of 63 yards, and pinned the opponent inside the 20 yard line twice.

Dai’Mont Mucker (SR) was honored as a 2nd team all league running back for the second year in a row. Mucker rushed for 1,127 yards, averaged 6.7 yards a carry and ran for 12 touchdowns. He added 9 catches for 211 receiving yards and a touchdown catch. Derek Truman (SR) earned 2nd team honors as an offensive lineman. Truman recorded 11 pancake blocks. Steel Schomaker (JR) joined his older brother on the all league team. Steel, a second team defensive back, had 79 tackles (37 solos, 42 assists) 3 tackles for loss, 4 pass break ups and 2 forced fumbles.

Trace Emig (SR) landed honorable mention honors as a linebacker and a tight end. On defense, Emig had 47 tackles (18 solos, 29 assists) 3.5 tackles for loss, 1 quarterback hurry, 2 interceptions (one for a 45 yard touchdown) and 1 pass break up. On offense, Emig’s greatest contribution was his reliable blocking. He did add 4 catches for 35 yards and caught a 2 point conversion. Noah Chobad (JR) was honored as an honorable mention interior defensive lineman for the second year in a row. Chobad recorded 40 tackles (10 solos, 30 assists) 3 tackles for loss, 2 quarterback hurries and 1 blocked kick on a point after attempt. Fellow juniors Drake Thornton and Colby Newton also earned honorable mention honors. Thornton, a defensive end, notched 55 tackles (20 solos, 35 assists) 8 tackles for loss and 1 quarterback hurry. Newton, a linebacker, led the team with 3 interceptions. He added 60 tackles (23 solos, 37 assists) and 2 pass break ups. Sophomore offensive lineman Roman Gage was also an honorable mention selection.

The Hornets finished with a 5-4 record, the second consecutive winning season, third winning season in the past four seasons, and fifth winning season in the past eight seasons.
